12 mares have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse, highlighted by the resumption of some of the Spring Carnival’s standout performers.
Girl Guide undoubtedly found career-best form over the second half of 2014, and has been confirmed in the 2015 Bellmaine Stakes final field.
Finishing outside the places only twice through her eleven start career to date, Girl Guide returned for an impressive victory over 1200m at Moonee Valley on August 23rd; progressing to further success in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) before running second to Griante in the Group 3 Sportingbet Series Final (1200m) on October 5th.
Running on late to finish second to Sweet Idea in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) on October 18th, the Churchill Downs mare returned to the paddock following a credible performance for sixth in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on November 1st.
Griante was unable to make much of an impact over her final two starts in spring, but has reportedly taken well to her time in the paddock and subsequent return to work, and is offered a great chance of success in the Bellmaine Stakes from barrier 5.
Claiming five wins and finishing in the places a further four times over her 14 start career, Griante was a standout performer for David Brideoake over the 2014 autumn; highlighted by three second place finishes in minor events before a close second place finish in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) in June.
Running fourth in the Cove Hotel FM (1200m) and Citiopera Plate (1100m) upon resuming in spring, the Good Journey mare secured a career-best win in the Sportingbet Series Final on October 11th.
A leading chance for success in the 2015 Bellmaine Stakes, veteran mare Bonaria was rewarded for her strong and consistent racing career when taking out the Myer Classic most notably in spring, and is offered a great chance of first-up success from barrier 4 this weekend.
Winning both the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) and Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m) most notably over the 2014 autumn, Bonaria steadily built to the task over her first three starts in spring.
Unlucky to be blocked for a run and thirteenth in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) on October 4th, the daughter of Redoute’s Choice was checked early in the Group 3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m) on October 15th, finishing seventh.
Leading mares Solicit and Politeness have also been confirmed in the 2015 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes final field, while the Peter Moody-trained Spirits Dance has been charged home overcoming the outside barrier 12 this weekend.
